Squirrel Study-Part 1 (Hopefully)

My squirrel looks a bit possessed in these pictures. I deeply apologize for any nightmares you may have as a result. Basically, I'm still figuring out these settings on my new camera. I've read more in the little booklet and realized that instead of the Auto setting, I should be using the Easy setting. Because I don't know what I'm doing and the Easy setting is the photography setting for dummies. ;D

Anyway, what precipitated the whole squirrel study thing is the fact that we saw THREE squirrels in our yard in one day, at one time. This is a big deal around here! We have a dog who pretty much keeps the little guys from venturing into our territory. The lure of the bird seed must have been too much for them to resist. Usually we only ever see one. One squirrel in the 6 years we've lived here. Now I know there's more little guys out there. I want the King to build me a squirrel feeder so I can put it in a place they can access without being in fear of their lives.

Due to the arrival of the squirrels, I got out the Handbook of Nature Study and read some of the highlights, we visited the HNS blog and watched the great squirrel youtube videos that Barb found, we read The Tale of Timmy Tiptoes from Beatrix Potter and I've had Pooh do copywork from HNS-one sentence. The boys loved the videos. We even watched the obstacle course one twice. LOL

I plan to do a little more with this. Perhaps get out and see some squirrels on a nature walk, then do a nature journal page on them. If that happens, that'll be part two.

You can barely see this one. Look for the possessed eyes. He's on top of my bird feeder arbor.

This one I took to show how they go head first down trees (or arbors).

I promise that the next photos of squirrels will be better.

One of these days I have to video tape our squirrels. We often see a pair of them running circles around and up the trunk of a tree, one chasing the other . . .

I have yet to take a good photo of a squirrel in our yard...they too have those "glowing" eyes. I wonder why their eyes are so reflective?

Anyway, great study and thanks for sharing your link.
